When Cathy Binder asked me if I could cut an oval glass panel into her solid entry door in the early 90’s I jumped at the chance. I had cut glass inserts into several doors before, but this would be a great chance to try my hand at something new, steam bending. Well, after nearly setting my house on fire with a flaming steam box, and several failed attempts at adequately softening the oak strips to take that tight radius, we finally succeeded, only to scratch the tempered glass with a sander. Everything worked out great in the end, though, and it really was a great opportunity to try something new. |
